I used this math sheet at the beginning of the year to help me inform my instruction. Since the CC standard is for them to be able to write 0-20 by the end of the year, I like to see what they come to me knowing. I have them write on their own and just go as far as they can (you will see I included more boxes if they would like to go past 20).

Check out what I did to these paper size birthday cakes for our math lesson! Not only did I laminate them on card stock so I can use them every year… I made them a reasonable size so I could display them right on my white board and added some magnetic tape to the back so they would stick. I used dry erase markers for the names on the candles so they erased easily and I don’t have to make new ones every year as well.
Some teachers like to have their students write 0-20 randomly. Here is a form I tweaked this year that you can do it on. (I actually left room for 25 numbers ). The shapes work well to assist the students in knowing what line they should be on.
I used these simple flash cards with it to help the students visually match up with what line we were on.
