Moon Sand

Moon Sand

Posted by Janelle Pauldine |

orange-sandThe other day I got a shipment (like I do often) of some new wooded boxes with moon sand (there are a lot of different versions but essentially it’s all the same – well pretty much).  I really wanted green and decided to go with orange as well because you know, of course it haaad to match my new room.

The green was very tricky to find for an affordable price so I settled for what I thought was going to work.  A mom was in my room when I realized the green sand I bought was a complete flop! It was not sticking together like moon sand was supposed to and was just making a mess everywhere.  She cleaned up the green sand for me and I decided to use it at a different time of the day for something different. green-sand

When the students left the room she asked what the sand was and when I told her “Moon Sand” and my story of how I wanted green and it was too expensive so I settled for obviously the cheap stuff… she informed me that she just saw like 6 boxes of it at the thrift store in town.  “WHAT?! Are you kidding me?!” Was my first thought.  But then I thought… how would she have known?!  She proceeded to tell me how she really didn’t even know what it was.

This is when I realized, I need to make sure I am sharing as much as I can with my families so that they are exposed to items like moon sand that are more common to teachers AND it was just another example of the benefits for family members who are able to be in the room – even if it is just for a short time.
