Help! Missing Elf!

Help! Missing Elf!

Posted by Jennifer Lintner |

Yep, Janelle has purchased three elves for her family all because she keeps forgetting where they are hidden after Christmas. We laughed about it thinking it was just her until another friend said she had done the same thing. She was wracking her brain to figure out a solution to this problem. Here are some ideas we have come up with:

1. Hide it in a shopping bag in the same upper cabinet every year that only the adults can reach it and they will see it every time they open the doors. It’s even better if the bag makes no sense. Ours is in a Casual Male bag so every time I open the kitchen cupboard I am puzzled by that bag being there. Works like a charm. For us anyway.

2. Set an alarm and label it Elf – [insert hiding space here]. You can schedule the alarm to go off on the day after Thanksgiving. Or December 1st. Or December 23rd. Really whenever you want to have to start dealing with it.

3. Wrap it in wrapping paper and store it with the Christmas decorations. Mark it with a tag that says: TO BE OPENED BY PARENTS ONLY AS SOON AS FOUND.

4. Do what Janelle did this year and give it to the grandparents for safekeeping. Chances are much better that they will be able to store it in a place they will remember that the kids will not see.

We’d love to hear how you remember where your elf is hiding each year so please comment below and share with us!

Here’s to Janelle not having to buy a fourth elf next year!

Oh, a final note the elves come in both genders and various colors now so if you DO have to buy a new one, try to remember what you had before or you will have a lot of explaining to do!

  • Tired of asking your kids to give the person in the bathroom a little privacy? Give them a place to stand while waiting their turn!!
  • Hot day with no clip or pony holder? Smart teachers use what’s on hand! Binder clips are good for more than holding papers!!
